Train today, perform tomorrow. ⁣ ⁣ On September 20, 2023 the Artemis II astronauts practiced some of the pre-launch procedures they’ll perfect before their slated 2024 launch to the Moon.⁣ ⁣ NASA Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen awoke at their crew quarters at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and put on test versions of the Orion Crew Survival System spacesuits they will wear on launch day. They then departed to Launch Pad 39B in NASA’s new crew transportation fleet. ⁣ ⁣ Upon arrival at the pad, the crew headed onto the mobile launcher and proceeded up the tower to the white room inside the crew access arm. There was no Orion spacecraft or Space Launch System rocket on the pad today, but on launch day this is where the crew will take their final Earth-bound steps prior to their journey around the Moon. ⁣ ⁣ Credit: NASA⁣

An international partnership of five space agencies from 15 countries operates the station, and it has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It's a microgravity laboratory where science, research, and human innovation make way for new technologies and research breakthroughs not possible on Earth. We commissioned a study team to examine from a scientific perspective unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) – that is, observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena. The focus of this public meeting is to hold final deliberations before the independent study team publishes a report in summer 2023. The report will inform us on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP. The UAP independent study team is a counsel of 16 community experts across diverse areas on matters relevant to potential methods of study for UAP. We commissioned the nine-month study to examine UAP from a scientific perspective and create a roadmap for how to use data and the tools of science to move our understanding of UAP forward. Right now, the limited high-quality observations of UAP make it impossible to draw scientific conclusions from the data about the nature of such events. NASA | Massive Black Hole Shreds Passing Star

21.10.2015

This artist’s rendering illustrates new findings about a star shredded by a black hole. When a star wanders too close to a black hole, intense tidal forces rip the star apart. In these events, called “tidal disruptions,” some of the stellar debris is flung outward at high speed while the rest falls toward the black hole. This causes a distinct X-ray flare that can last for a few years. NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, Swift Gamma-ray Burst Explorer, and ESA/NASA’s XMM-Newton collected different pieces of this astronomical puzzle in a tidal disruption event called ASASSN-14li, which was found in an optical search by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) in November 2014. The event occurred near a supermassive black hole estimated to weigh a few million times the mass of the sun in the center of PGC 043234, a galaxy that lies about 290 million light-years away. Astronomers hope to find more events like ASASSN-14li to test theoretical models about how black holes affect their environments. During the tidal disruption event, filaments containing much of the star's mass fall toward the black hole. Eventually these gaseous filaments merge into a smooth, hot disk glowing brightly in X-rays. As the disk forms, its central region heats up tremendously, which drives a flow of material, called a wind, away from the disk. Music credit: Encompass by Mark Petrie from Killer Tracks. Asteroid sample in Nasa capsule hurtling towards Earth - BBC News

22.09.2023

Nasa's Osiris-Rex capsule will come hurtling into Earth's atmosphere on Sunday at more than 15 times the speed of a rifle bullet. It will make a fireball in the sky as it does so, but a heat shield and parachutes will slow the descent and bring it into a gentle touchdown in Utah's West Desert. The capsule is carrying a handful of dust from asteroid Bennu. It is hoped the space rock sample can inform the most profound of questions: Where do we come from? "When we get the 250g (9oz) of asteroid Bennu back on Earth, we'll be looking at material that existed before our planet, maybe even some grains that existed before our Solar System," says Prof Dante Lauretta, the principal investigator on the mission. NASA released an artistic interpretation of a Mars landscape in which they added color to a composite photograph of two black-and-white panoramic images captured by its Curiosity Mars rover. The images were taken as the rover ascended the foothills of the 3-mile-high (5-kilometer-high) mountain with the Gale Crater, according to NASA. The rover used its black-and-white navigation cameras to take two series of five individual images captured over 7 1/2 minutes one series in the morning and one in the afternoon of April 8, 2023, NASA explained. Later, on Earth, those images were combined to create two black-and-white panoramic photographs to which they added color and annotation. Curiosity landed in the Gale Crater of Mars on August 6, 2012 and is still exploring the planet.

NASA has announced that it is creating a new director of research into what the US government calls "unidentified anomalous phenomenon," or UAP, and more commonly known by the public as UFOs. The US government has made headlines in recent years by releasing videos like this jet fighter footage showing such encounters, after decades of relative silence on the subject. Thursday's announcement of a new UAP director came on the heels of an independent panel at NASA, which recommended that the agency play a larger role in helping the Pentagon detect the things. #UFO #nasa #aliens Read more here: 🤍 Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
