Well, none of it matters If you're not here to see it with me If I always knew How to break down walls like you Even if it’s not what we need now At each and every turn there’s always you Every turn there’s always you Every turn, always And how small a thought can seem Yet last beyond any other ideas? June Lee's famous interview mentions George Russell as they discuss Jacob's idea of Lydian. Who is he though? Personal Harmony and Music Theory Lessons: 🤍 Instagram/Twitter: 🤍leon_waves
hi everyone, i have a general system for indexing alterations of modes split from familiar bases. these modal bases all end in -ian such as lydian, mothrian, jirian, etc. alterations to the modal base can be made via suffix shifts seen below. this system is something i've been utilizing for 2 years but recently have expanded it further. they can be used projective or descriptive and aren't intended to override an existing modal base elsewhere if suffixed to arrive at it but it supports the ability to express extended alterations through suffix. there are some others i will be adding, sharing, tweaking, but this is where it is as of now. modia[n] = normal modia = raised 1/5th color tone modia[s] = simultaneously raised 1/5th and normal (sharp + plural) modia[d/v] = down color tone 1/5th modia[l] = the main quality with degenerated fifth (such as in septimal mixolydial) These patterns of alteration while preserving the base diatonic mode around it are super common in 31 and having a quick way to vocally reference the distinct but similar aspect of them is helpful. The differences can be short hand expressed through implied chordscale notation like how Maj7#11 suggests lydian generally. So instead of Min7^6 referencing, "dorian with a semisharp 6th" instead "doria" and the alteration will be compressed in the language. Very low committal alterations as well which easily extend familiar sounds. :) i.e. Lydian = #4 Lydia = #^4 Lydias = #4 + #^4 Dorian = 6 Doria = ^6 Dorias = 6 + ^6 #musictheory #microtonal #31edo #harmony
